Here at Oak Grove Community Church we just finished a six week study of "The message of the Church" (The Gospel).
This week we are planning (if God allows) to look at some characteristics of the Bible. It is important that we believe a few things about the Bible if we are to understand and believe the Gospel. Who inspired the Bible? Can the Bible be trusted (without error)? Is the Bible God's final word?
If you believe these questions about the Bible should have been answered and settled many years ago.
Then I would ask this question. Why is it that well over half (over one billion), of the more than two billion professing Christians in the world today, do not believe all of these Bible facts: The Bible is the "wholly" inspired Word of God OR The Bible is "without" error OR The Bible is God's "final" word to mankind in the Church age ?
See: Matt. 7: 21-23 to see what the results can be if we do not believe these Bible facts listed above.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (KJV)
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
Jude 1:3 (KJV)
3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
2 Peter 1:16-21 (KJV)
16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but [WE] were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
1 Thessalonians 2:13 (KJV)
13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.
2 Peter 3:15-18 (KJV)
15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
Revelation 22:18-19 (KJV)
18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
